Install Dr Java IDE

Page history last edited by Steve Sweeney 5 years ago

Unfortunately, the school board does not provide a Java Development Environment.

The Dr. Java IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is freely available for download, and can be used at both home and school.

  1. Browse to the official Dr. Java site.

  2. Download the Windows App (EXE File) for the latest stable release.
Save to your P: drive.  For example, P:\00 ICSxx\Java

  3. Download a file from this wiki, called In.class [download].
Some problems have been seen with In.class.  Here is the source code, In.java.
Save to the same location as the Dr. Java JAR file.  For example, P:\00 ICSxx\Java

  4. Test the In.class using this test program.

Now you will need to configure Dr. Java for daily use.

  1. Run Dr. Java (double-click on the EXE or JAR file).
  2. Open the Preferences Window:  Edit --> Preferences
  3. Add the location where you saved the files to the "Extra Classpath".  For example, P:\00 ICSxx\Java
  4. Associate .java files with Dr. Java:  Miscellaneous --> File Types
